East Trenton Collaborative Hosts First of Twelve Princeton Justice ShareFairs

Monthly events will provide no-cost goods and services to in-need, at-risk families in capital
city.

(February 14, 2024 — Princeton, NJ) Princeton Justice Initiative, a 501(c)(3) launched in 2020,
took an important first step toward expanding its footprint in Mercer County with the first of
twelve ShareFairs slated for Trenton in 2024. The event was hosted by the East Trenton
Collaborative (ETC) at 601 North Clinton Avenue in Trenton’s North Ward on Saturday, January 27,
from noon to 3:00 pm.

Princeton Justice provides no-cost civil legal aid, vaccines and healthcare services, groceries,
and referrals to a wide range of community resources. ETC is dedicated to neighborhood
revitalization through community organizing. The partnership amplifies the strengths of both
organizations.

“We are very excited to partner with Princeton Justice Initiative for these monthly ShareFairs,” says ETC’s Liz Leonard. “Being a small team, collaboration is key in order for us to be able to offer as many resources as possible to East Trenton residents. ShareFairs enable us to do exactly that. We’re thankful to Princeton Justice—and the many organizations attending the events—for raising awareness of the services that are available to our community.”

East Trenton is home to 4,000 residents, many of whom work for neighborhood businesses such as
defense contractor Hutchinson Industries and Taylor Provisions, inventors of the iconic Taylor pork
roll.

More than 50 people from the local community attended the January ShareFair—a number that is
expected to increase quickly as word spreads about the ETC-Princeton Justice partnership.
Attendees enjoyed a hot lunch and took home 30 bags of healthy groceries, donated by Arm in Arm.

In addition to Princeton Justice and ETC, seven aligned organization set up exhibits offering free
goods and information: City of Trenton (free Covid test kits), Hyacinth Health & Wellness (STD Testing), Paez Financial (financial coaching), Tobacco Free New Jersey (info on dangers of tobacco use), Lead-Free New Jersey (lead education and prevention), Architect Marina Rubina (New Beginnings Housing Program), and Visionary Philanthropy Group/Before It Happens Love- Funderburg Foundation (at-risk youth services).

“The goal of our first Trenton ShareFair was to give people an idea of what Princeton Justice is
all about, and the many ways our volunteers are able to assist in matters large and small,” says
Lavinia Lee Mears, the organization’s founder. “We signed up 14 new clients in Trenton and have
already begun the process of working through their cases.”

The next ShareFair being held in conjunction with East Trenton Collaborative will be Saturday,
February 24, from noon to 3:00 pm. Princeton Justice plans to offer no-cost vaccines for adults and
children, as well as free civil legal aid through its network of pro bono attorneys.

Princeton Justice Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all- volunteer social impact and legal aid organization created to alleviate, reduce and eliminate poverty in Central Western New Jersey through non-partisan, all-inclusive and secular outreach and events. The Princeton Justice/AmeriCorps ShareFair program offers real-world, practical benefits to those in need by connecting community members with services and resources that fulfill Princeton Justice’s mission of fighting poverty and economic injustice.
