NAACP Attorneys On Tap for March 23 ShareFair in East Trenton

East Trenton ‘ShareFair’ Connecting City Residents with Vital Services

(Princeton, NJ — March 18, 2024)    Word travels fast in East Trenton when something good is happening. On February 24th, the second of twelve scheduled ShareFairs in Trenton this year attracted 119 visitors and 18 community service organizations—both doubling the numbers from the inaugural ShareFair on January 27th.

ShareFairs are “pop-up” community centers created by Princeton Justice Initiative in partnership with the East Trenton Collaborative, which hosted the January and February events at 601 North Clinton Avenue in Trenton. The monthly ShareFairs feature a rotating menu of no-cost services that includes vaccines, testing, physical and mental health services & advocacy, legal services, information on community programs and resources, cooking workshops, hot lunches and take-away grocery bags.

The next ShareFair is scheduled for 601 North Clinton on Saturday, March 23, from noon to 3:00 pm. Bi-lingual staff members are on site to translate for Spanish-speaking clients.

“This month, in addition to several new vendors, we will have pro bono attorneys from the NAACP available for brief consultations on civil legal matters, with follow-up afterwards,” says Briana Belcher of Princeton Justice. “They can offer guidance on subjects such as evictions, contract disputes, divorce and violations of personal or family rights—anything other than criminal cases.”

Belcher advises individuals interested in meeting with Princeton Justice attorneys to schedule ahead of time. This can be done at www.pjihelps.org by clicking on the “Get Help Now” tab.

The opportunity to form connections with neighborhood has been especially rewarding to the organizations that set up tables at the ShareFairs. The math is simple: The more people they see, the more people they help.

“This was such an exciting opportunity to drive a meaningful and positive impact that addresses the needs of Trenton communities,” says Khari Muhammad of Green & Healthy Homes Initiative. “The power of targeted community-building is the chance to connect to an audience on a deeper level.”

Princeton Justice Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer social impact and legal aid organization created to alleviate, reduce and eliminate poverty in Central Western New Jersey through non-partisan, all-inclusive and secular outreach and events. The Princeton Justice/AmeriCorps ShareFair program offers real-world, practical benefits to those in need by connecting community members with services and resources that fulfill Princeton Justice’s mission of fighting poverty and economic injustice.
