Princeton Justice Hosting December 9 ‘ShareFair’ in Manville

Pop-Up Community Center Offering Groceries, Flu Shots and Information Resources.

(Princeton, NJ — November 21, 2023)        Princeton Justice Initiative (pjihelps.org) is hosting its final ShareFair of 2023 at Thomas J. Kavanagh VFW Post 2290 on Saturday, December 9, from noon to 3:00 pm. The ShareFair program, supported by a generous grant from AmeriCorps, functions as a “pop-up” community center, where volunteers offer everything from flu shots to bags of groceries to information on a wide range of topics, including civil legal aid.

The Manville VFW is located at 600 Washington Avenue.

“Individuals struggling with financial, legal and health challenges are often just one bad break away from spiraling into poverty,” says Princeton Justice CEO Saul Petersen. “Our organization is equipped to step into the breech and provide assistance where it’s needed most—often just by helping people understand what their options are and pointing them in the proper direction.”

Several aligned organizations will participate in the upcoming ShareFair, with other groups being lined up for 2024. On tap for the December 9 ShareFair are Feeding Hands, Somerset Helps, Hopes CAP and a nurse from the county Department of Health, who will administer flu shots. Manville Recreation is supplying a Spanish-speaking translator.

“We all share the same goal—to end local poverty,” explains Lavinia Lee Mears-Parasole, Esq., who co-founded Princeton Justice three years ago. “Our volunteers work with communities like Manville to support people struggling with challenges that include food insecurity, poor health, substance abuse, financial struggles and civil legal issues, such as eviction and divorce.”

There is no charge to attend the December 9 ShareFair, and attendees don’t have to live in Manville to take advantage of the free products and services being offered.

“In addition to those seeking our services, we also hope to see people anxious to pitch in with their time and expertise at future events,” adds Mears-Parasole. “Attorneys with pro bono hours to contribute are at the absolute top of our list. A couple of hours meeting with folks at a ShareFair—or on the phone afterwards—can prevent bad outcomes for good people falling through the cracks of the legal system.”

The last ShareFair in Manville, in October, did not offer flu shots. It still drew dozens of people from in and around town despite a rainstorm. With no-charge flu shots being offered at the December 9 event, Princeton Justice is expecting an even better turnout.
